Meet Allison Rew
Allison
describes her life as colourful and adventurous, one blessed
with a rich array of work and play experiences. Born in Malaysia,
where she lived with her parents and two older brothers until
the age of nine, she has since found herself at home in England,
Japan and five of Canada’s provinces. Over the years
she has travelled further afield to Scotland, Thailand, Australia,
Hong Kong, Peru and Ecuador. A city kid most of her life,
she is now happily settled in rural Nova Scotia. Lunenburg
County has been home for ten years.
Allison's working life has been equally diverse.
She has enjoyed writing since she was a child and over the
years has written an assortment of pieces. In recent years
she has been printed in Maclean's magazine (Over To You) and
broadcast on CBC Radio (Outfront). For a while she worked
as an editor with an international business consulting company
in Japan. Allison also has a career in social work, which
has taken her into child protection, corrections, addictions,
domestic violence, adult protection and hospital settings.
In one of her many lives, as a stay-at-home mum, Allison ran
a small home-based natural foods business.
The life adventure she most cherishes is that
of mother to her now teenaged son. Nick has taught her the
importance of patience, of listening to one’s child,
of having the courage to trust one’s intuition (even
when that flies in the face of conventional wisdom), of guiding
one’s child to be who they truly are at their very core.
As they navigate the teenage years, Allison looks forward
to further lessons.
Community is also very important to Allison. She
sees Roots and Wings as an expression of community and its
members supporting one another as they traverse the peaks
and valleys of parenting.
Roots and Wings brings together these eclectic
forces in her life – motherhood, writing and social
work as well as perspectives and experiences gleaned from
visiting various parts of the globe.
Allison looks forward to getting to know other
South Shore parents as she embarks on this next adventure.
