Welcome to Roots and Wings
As
we parents go about the task of raising, guiding and advocating
for our children, we often find ourselves searching for information,
advice or reassurance. The need may be as simple as where
to sign up for the local kids' soccer club. Or more complex
such as how to respond to a troubled child.
In this South Shore community of ours, there is
a wealth of resources for families. Sometimes, though, it's
difficult to find what we're looking for. Roots and Wings
is a bi-monthly magazine full of the useful information parents
need.
And best of all...it's free!
Designed for parents with children pre-born to
age 18, Roots and Wings is about helping one another in this
most delightful and hair-pulling of occupations. It's about
giving our children roots to grow and wings to fly. It's about
raising children who are healthy in every way – physically,
mentally, emotionally and spiritually. And it's about growing
ourselves in the process.
(Grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers...and
anyone else who is part of a child's world – you'll
enjoy Roots and Wings too!)
In
its pages you'll find articles touching on that wide array
of issues that present themselves to parents on a daily basis.
Encouraging, informative, thought-provoking, entertaining
and sometimes poignant, these will be written by editor/publisher
Allison Rew and by other parents – possibly even by
you! Parents of grown children are also invited to share their
stories, and in so doing encourage young parents with the
wisdom that comes from experience and the passage of time.
It's a place to exchange ideas, insights, skills and perspectives.
You'll also be introduced to various non-profit
groups and the work they do to support family life in Lunenburg
and Queens. In each issue you'll find a monthly calendar of
support group meetings, activities and events that are free
or low-cost. And you'll find advertising that is relevant
to family life.
Roots and Wings invites you to explore the pages
of this site and find out how you can be a part of this addition
to our South Shore community.
